The Currie®-Built
Ford 8.8" Rearend is a marriage of new technology and tried-and-true
9" Ford components that were first brought together by Currie
Enterprises when the first Mustangs were equipped with the 8.8
in the early 80's. The idea was an obvious advantage over other
manufacturers' attempts to make the stock rears safe by adapting
the "c-clip eliminators," because the rear actually became safer
as it complied to the different sanctioning bodies' regulations
regarding c-clip axle retention. The Ford 8.8" rear is comparable
in design and strength to the 12-bolt Chevy, and its applications
are therefore very similar. There are many applications where
the 8.8 is hard to replace, such as in vehicles equipped with
anti-lock brakes, where the tone ring is attached to the ring
rear. Vehicles such as '94 and newer Mustangs and F-150 trucks
with anti-lock brakes or vehicle speed sensors are difficult
to upgrade away from the original rearend center sections. These
vehicles are prime candidates for modification, rather than
replacement of the original rears. Currie Enterprises has been
building the 8.8 for high performance street, drag, road course
and off-road racing for many years and has the solutions to
your 8.8" questions.
