The Currie®-Built Dana 60 Rearend
is a combination of Dana and Currie® components that are
unique to Currie Enterprises. The original Dana 60 center section
is equipped with 9" Ford-type housing ends and uses Currie's
own alloy
axle shafts. This combination allows the largest selection of
axle bearings and the widest variety of disc and drum brake
options. These heavy-duty semi-float rearends are popular in
trucks, utility vehicles and heavy passenger cars. The Dana
60's strong points are its reasonable cost, ease of assembly
and the ability to carry and tow heavy loads. The Dana 60's
disadvantages are its weight (about 70 lbs. more than a 9"),
its low ground clearance (about 1" less than a 9") and the length
of the pinion shaft (about 1.5" longer than a 9"). The Dana
60 is ideal for trucks with 36" or taller tires and performance
applications where weight is not critical.
