Measuring For Custom Axles

 

Do not measure your existing axle length. Currie builds custom axles using the "X" and "Y" dimensions shown below.

 

 

All dimensions should be accurate to the 1/16 of an inch to ensure a proper fit.

 

 

For the "X" dimension (Drivers side axle), hook the tape measure on the stud (as shown) and measure to the outside edge of the housing end flange.

For the "Y" dimension (Passengers side axle), hook the tape measure on the stud (as shown) and measure to the outside edge of the housing end flange.

 

 

 

Housing End Type

 

Use the images and dimensions below to identify the housing end type. Measure the Brake Space (BS) to verify axle fitment as Ford used several different combinations of housing end and brake space dimensions during production runs. If your housing end and brake space dimensions do not match the sizes shown, please call as we have many axle options.

Axle Brake Space

 

Brake Space (BS) is the distance from the face of the housing end to the face of the axle; this is a critical dimension for proper brake fitment. If your housing end type and brake space dimensions do not match the options below, please contact sales to speak with one of our experts.

 

Standard Brake Space Dimensions

  • Late Big Bearing   = 2.5 in. brake space
  • Early Big Bearing  = 2.365 in. brake space

 

 

 

Axle Face, Register Diameter and Bolt Pattern

 

Axle face and register diameter are essential dimensions for proper brake fitment. A slightly smaller axle face diameter is acceptable, as this does not create clearance issues for brake fitment. The register diameter is a critical dimension as it serves to locate both the drum or disc brake rotor. Use a dial or digital caliper to measure the register diameter to 1/1000th of an inch accuracy. If your axle face or register diameters do not match the size options above, please contact sales to speak with one of our experts.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

PROP 65 WARNING:

Currie Extreme axle shafts for 9-inch rearends feature two custom cut and splined, induction heat-treated, 1541 forged alloy 40-spline axle shafts. Axles are available for sealed 45mm large bearing or tapered Set 80 large bearing applications.

Note:

The larger Set 80 and 45mm bearings require a deep style late model (Torino) big bearing housing end and will not fit standard Torino housing ends
