These retainer plates are used in conjuction with brake kits that use weld on caliper brackets, or rearends with no brakes. These plates have a machined relief in the back of them allowing this plate to retain the axle bearing at the proper preload and not rely on any other plates or brackets being between the retainer plate and the housing end. These plates fit early large bearing Ford housing ends only.
